Theme Park Injuries: Woman Burned at the Happiest Place on Earth

July 26, 2017

Imagine travelling across the ocean to visit Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth … only to be sent home with 2nd-degree burns. Well, that’s exactly what happened to one British woman who visited Disneyland Paris.

Erica Osbourne is a 37-year-old mom from the U.K. She was visiting the theme park with her 10-year-old daughter, Abigail. They were ordering crème brulee for dessert when Erica said, “The chef lit the sugar and a massive fireball came across the counter towards [her].

Chefs use a blowtorch to prepare crème brulee. The blowtorch melts the sugar on top to form a layer of sweet crispiness. Blowtorches usually only put out a small (but hot) blue flame. Yet, Osbourne described “a massive fireball.”

This could mean that the chef misused the blowtorch. (Seriously, why the blowtorch was aimed at Osbourne’s face in the first place? Shouldn’t the chef have been aiming downwards, towards his crème brulee??)

What’s worse? The theme park reportedly didn’t take the incident seriously. One worker apparently suggested that it happened because Osbourne was wearing too much perfume.

Other Theme Park Injuries

Unfortunately, theme park injures are not rare. They happen every day, even in the U.S. Usually, though, theme park injuries involve actual thrill rides. There are reports of kids flying out of water slides and falling off roller coasters. There are even reports of adults being thrown off a water ride and getting trapped underneath the raft. Theme park injuries can happen to any person, at any theme park.

Theme Park Injury Attorney

As with any serious injuries, theme park injuries have lifelong consequences for the injured party. In cases where the injuries are fatal, theme park injuries have lifelong consequences for the victims’ families. There’s no way to eliminate all risk.

If you have been injured at a theme park or by someone who works there, you could have a legal claim against the theme park. A personal injury lawyer experienced in theme park injuries can help you get all the compensation you deserve from the responsible party.
