Motorcycle Rider Survives High-Speed Hit-and-Run Wreck

February 27, 2023

A 25-year-old man was able to walk away from, or at least hobble away from, a horrific hit-and-run wreck that looked like something out of a Hollywood movie.

Video shows a speeding car overtake a motorcycle on the 60 Freeway in the Moreno Valley, slam into the bike, and keep moving forward like nothing happened. The force of the collision shattered the motorcycle and also shattered the rider’s leg. He sustained other injuries as well, such a severe road rash and several broken fingers.

“I was just in the air and I started sliding forever,” the victim recalled. “I’m blessed you know, I’m walking and that’s all that counts,” he concluded.

California Highway Patrol investigators have few leads, other than the car they’re looking for should have extensive front end damage.

Motorcycle Crash Injuries

Badly broken legs are very common motorcycle crash injuries. Usually, negligent drivers smash into a rider’s leg. That’s especially true in left-turn wrecks. In these collisions, negligent drivers who are turning left cross directly into a rider’s path. Typically, additional breaks happen when riders fall off their bikes.

Such injuries are usually permanent. Most victims sustain permanent loss of motion in their knees, ankles, or hips, despite the best efforts of doctors and physical therapists.

Road rash burns usually aren’t permanent. However, there’s no effective treatment for these painful injuries. So, these victims must remain immobile and take lots of painkillers until the rash goes away.

Because of these and other serious injuries, a Los Angeles personal injury attorney can usually obtain substantial compensation for victims in court. This compensation usually includes money for economic losses, such as medical bills, and noneconomic losses, such as pain and suffering.

Options for Hit-and-Run Victims

Even if the at-fault driver remains at large, this compensation is usually available. If a lawyer cannot locate a hit-and-run driver, these victims can usually file claims with their own insurance companies.

Usually, however, hit-and-run drivers can run, but they can’t hide. Attorneys use pieces of seemingly inconsequential evidence to track down the responsible party.

In the above story, the negligent driver was moving so fast at the point of impact that it’s impossible to identify the vehicle. However, another traffic or surveillance camera on another part of the 60 Freeway, or perhaps near the freeway, might have captured part of the license plate number.

An attorney can use this evidence to track down the owner. It’s more likely than not that the owner was driving the vehicle at the time. More likely than not (a preponderance of the evidence) is the burden of proof in civil court. See how that works? Vehicle collisions usually cause serious injuries.
