The Most Common Workplace Injuries

May 18, 2016

Workplace injuries can at times lead to high costs for the injured party. The law has taken this into account and workers’ compensation laws require for employers to have workers’ compensation insurance in order to cover for any workplace related injury. Unfortunately, workplace injuries can never be entirely avoided. Even if an employer was to take every precaution possible, accidents happen and often they result in work-related injuries. Some of the most common workplace injuries are:

Overexertion. Statistically overexertion is the number one workplace injury. This would include any injury that was caused by lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying or holding anything too heavy.

Slip and Falls. Slip and fall workplace injuries occur when an employee slips on a wet or slippery office floor, or if an employee was to fall off a ladder, or a roof or even down the staircase, while at work and sustained an injury due to the fall.

Highway Accidents. If an employee is involved in a car accident, while in the course of his or her employment, any injury would be covered by workers’ compensation. For example, if you work as a delivery guy for your employer and get into a car accident, this would be a workplace injury.

Repetitive Motions. While not as obvious, this sort of workplace injury is one of the more harmful ones in the long run. For example, constant typing and using the computer 24/7 may cause muscle strain, back pain, vision problems and carpal tunnel. While this sort of workplace injuries take some build-up they can be quite debilitating in the end.
